Where's the Beef? Or more appropriately, where does the Beef come from? (A first in a series of "where does it come from" blog posts).
Our Prime Rib is Braveheart certified Black Angus Beef, the best quality Black Angus Beef available in the United States. Braveheart Cattle must be entirely black, as defined and supervised by the USDA, and must be genetically Angus. Braveheart Cattle are fed a vegetarian dies (no animal by-products here!) using corn that is local to the Midwest United States where the high quality Angus herds are raised.
Braveheart Cattle are raised on smaller farms that take a more personal interest in the humane care the cattle receive. Braveheart Cattle are raised within 150 miles of the packing house (much closer than industry average), reducing stress on the cattle, lowering out carbon footprint and helping to give you the highest quality, best tasting Prime Rib.
Enjoy!
It is always nice to get a Thank You Card in the mail after the hard work of putting together a bride & groom's wedding day and reception but this is just as thoughtful.
One of our Wedding Planners, Mary-Beth, received this Thank You Card from one our happy couples to be married at The Barns at Wesleyan Hills this July after their Detail Appointment a few weeks ago.
This means we must be doing something right! Thank you so much Tracy & Steve for sharing your thoughts and feedback with us! We can't wait to celebrate your special day with you.
Our latest Thank You Card comes from a couple that celebrated their reception last month at The Wadsworth Mansion. Yetsenia & Daniel invited their closest friends & family back in January and had them witness this memorable moment in life and tied the knot.
We received this Thank You Note and picture in the mail yesterday from this newly married couple and it was a great way to start the work week!
Many thanks and gratitude to Yetsenia & Daniel for sharing their thoughts with us from their special day. We wish you nothing but the best of luck and happiness in your future! :) Congratulations once again!
Want to do something fun and interactive at your wedding? Try adding a Photobooth! Photo booths are great ways to get your guests involved in your reception and make sure they are having the best time.
Photo booths can also serve as your party favors. You can buy some picture frames so when your guests are done taking pictures, they can frame them and there they go; they have a great party favor that will truly be memorable.
These pictures are from the Photobooth provided by Harry Gambardella Entertainment. Our staff always has a great time creating memories with the photo booth and I am positive your guests will too.
This photo booth pictures comes from a wedding that happened this past wedding season at The Pavilion on Crystal Lake with Wedding Planner, Mary-Beth joining in on the fun with the bride.
Now that you have some ideas for your own wedding, go out there and get creative to really impress your guests! :)
Here at The Connecticut Wedding Group and Pavilion Catering, we host more than just great weddings. We have a variety of different events over the 2011 season like holiday parties, a benefit dinner, and a retirement party. It is always nice to hear back from these customers as well about what they thought of our services.
We held a retirement party at The Wadsworth Mansion after the weekend of the unplanned snow storm back in October. Take a look at the kind Thank You Card they sent to us about this event:
We also held a benefit dinner for Tammy McDowell & Family in December to help support her and her family after her diagnosis of cancer. Read their gracious words about the benefit we held for them at The Pavilion on Crystal Lake:

The entire Pavilion Catering family is saddening by the news
that Tammy McDowell has been diagnosed with cancer. The diagnosis, always
cruel, was especially so as it came at the same time she and husband Steve were
celebrating the birth of their second son, Jacob. Both his birth and the
diagnosis happened four weeks ago. Both Tammy and Steve are long time members
of the Pavilion Catering family.
Steve's sister, Marybeth McDowell, has put together a fundraiser that will go
to a Foundation to help with medical expenses and benefit their two boys, the
elder of whom is 3-year old A.J. The event will be from 5-9 p.m. on Wednesday,
December 14, 2011 at the Pavilion on Crystal Lake located at 144 Prout Hill
Road in Middletown. There will be a buffet dinner that will be served
continuously and there will be a raffle and a silent auction, which will
include UConn and New York Yankees tickets and many other items.
Anyone wishing to donate items for the raffle or auction may contact Ms.
McDowell at
Marybeth.mcdowell@gmail.com.
Admission to the fundraiser is $20.
Sunday October 30th, 2011, will be remembered by many as the day after the giant Nor'easter that hit Connecticut full force rendering hundreds of thousands of people without power, not here at CT Wedding Group or in the case of our bride and groom Jenna and Chris Greenhill, October 30th will instead be remembered as the day of the "Miracle Wedding". With all of Middletown out of power, 21 members of the Pavilion Catering staff came together to pack up the Barns and drive down to St. John's Orthodox Church, where Jenna and Chris's ceremony was taking place, to convert the basement of the Church into the perfect wedding reception for the couple. The result was wedding magic.
We are starting something new here and that is Guest Blogging. Today's comes from Kim of Kim's Cottage Confections; a wonderful, delicious and local bakery, just the next town over! When you book your wedding with us and want you cake made through us as well, we use Kim's Cottage Confections to create that delectable dessert to have at your reception!
Check out her website to see what tasty desserts she has to offer for any occasion or to make your wedding day dessert stand out!
Topic of the Day = Cake Toppers!
Kim runs into so many unique and creative ideas for cake toppers, nothing ever seems to amaze of surprise her. This is what she has to say about the idea:
"At Cottage Confections, the question isn't who's on top, but rather, what's on top? On top of your wedding cake that is. Once the size of the cake is determined, the detailed design discussions are complete, and the flavor selections are made, the final question remains "What are you putting on top of your cake? Be different! Let your cake top compliment your cake while honoring your personality and creativity! Over this last year, we have graced our wedding cakes with the like of handmade elephants, penguins, owls, a personalized pennant flag and baseball, mini flags reading 'I DO', delicate musical fabric birds, and a wooden figure of a bride and groom. Everyone love flowers, and a monogram is elegant, but how fun to stir up a conversation among your guests when they arrive to find something wild perched on top of your wedding cake!" So go ahead and mix it up and don't be afraid to let your colors show! It is always fun and interesting to see something new. Go ahead and check out what some of the brides did for cake toppers this past year.
Thank you Kim for sharing her experiences and photos!

Kim and Jonathan had such a beautiful vision for their wedding day, that they've gotten many nods from the local industry. Looking for ideas or inspiration? Check out their photos and the article on their big day on OneStylishBride.com . Another HUGE thank you to Heather Colt of Powerstation Photography for such gorgeous pictures!
There's more where this came from! Today is a blogging day I think. It's going to either be scorching hot or rainy, so why not stay inside and plan your wedding? Yes, I think that's a great plan :)
There will be more exciting photographs this afternoon. Stay tuned!
Haveli India is a fantastic, fantastic restaurant situated on Rt. 17 in Middletown, (just across from The Barns at Wesleyan Hills actually), where their staff diligently prepares an array of authentic Indian dishes for local patrons. Pavilion Catering is proud to announce that Haveli will be working with us to offer our clients full or partial Indian cuisine for their wedding celebrations at any of our four locations: The Pavilion on Crystal Lake, The Barns at Wesleyan Hills, The Lyman Orchards Golf Club, and The Wadsworth Mansion.
We recently had a luncheon at Haveli where we spent some time speaking with Krishna, the owner of the restaurant, about this exciting prospect. We chatted over several delicious dishes which we highly recommend to anyone who is interested in adding a little flavor to their dining out experience in Middletown:
The Vegetarian Samosa, Triangular pastry stuffed with mildly spiced potatoes and peas and deep fried;
The Chicken Curry, chicken cooked with spices in a thick gravy;
Chicken Tikka Masala, Tender skinless and boneless chicken marinated in a blend of ginger, garlic, yogurt and various spices, baked in the tandoor and sauteed with tomatoes, butter and cream.
It's just about that point in the day where we all start thinking about what's for dinner. If you're looking for guaranteed quality in a gorgeous, local atmosphere...head to Haveli!

The Hammons' beautiful Wadsworth Mansion wedding last fall is being featured on yet another Bridal Website!
This site, www.bridalinsider.com, offers brides in the San Diego, CA area tips and advice on how to plan the perfect West Coast wedding. They feature lots of do-it-yourself projects, coverage on real weddings in the area, feature articles on the best of the local wedding industry, and "eye-candy", a section dedicated to wedding day inspiration from all over the country.
This last section was where Amanda and Todd's wedding was highlighted. Along with the timeless beauty of their Mansion wedding, the bride and groom celebrated their special day on a date that not only celebrated the one year anniversary of their proposal, but also commemorated the birthday of an aunt of the beautiful bride, who passed away after fighting breast cancer. The couple used a beautiful candle-lit dedication to remember her and bring the family together throughout the evening. It was a lovely way of keeping her memory alive while they celebrated their beautiful union.

Another big thank you to Parsons Photography for these beautiful shots!
Unfortunately, it's a little rainy out this morning. The sun seems to be taking its time this Spring, so we thought we'd hold you over with some more pictures of food! Not your average solution, but we'd thought it might help.

Kim's Cottage Confections, a bakery hailing from our next door neighbor, Durham, CT, has been with us at The Connecticut Wedding Group and Pavilion Catering for quite some time now.
Kim works closely with many of our brides to design the perfect wedding cake for their special day. Groom's cakes are becoming a very popular addition as well!
Take a look at some of the pictures below to see what Kim has done for our very own brides in the last few years. She is an incredibly talented and kind woman and her cakes are to die for!

Check her out online or this Sunday at The Show!
As we reach the two week mark before our Bridal Show, we want to share with you a company that we not only trust with each and every one of our couples, but one that we are showcasing exclusively on the 23rd at The Wadsworth Mansion.
Sharon Elizabeth's Floral Design is the only florist we are bringing to our Bridal Show. And of course, there is good reason:) They are responsible for a great majority of the floral arrangements and centerpieces our brides carry down the aisle and/or display at their tables across all of our properties here at The Connecticut Wedding Group. Even more impressively, they are responsible for a great deal of the famous string light, lantern, and fabric decor that has become so popular at our properties.

Centerpieces from Sharon Elizabeth's come in all shapes, sizes and styles. Simple and elegant, extravagant or funky, they can cater to any bride's personal needs.

The Barns at Wesleyan Hills is a space that is open to a great array of decor options regardless of season or theme. Sharon Elizabeth's has been working closely with The Connecticut Wedding Group over the past few months to create even more decor options for our authentic, historic Barn, as well as bring a variety of new options to the gorgeous Pavilion on Crystal Lake! We are so excited to show off these new designs and packages to all of our brides on Sunday, the 23rd. Look below to catch some of our most popular looks, as well as a few new ones for 2011!
Beautiful String Lights and White Opaque Lanterns...
Overhead String Lighting with Fabric Decor...
Overhead String Lighting with Fabric Cascading from the Ceiling...
Simple but Elegant Overhead String Lighting...
Sharon Elizabeth's is truly...just right. We are proud to offer Decor Packages to all of our brides using their services every day of the year. Check out Sharon Elizabeth's Floral Design on the web and at our Bridal Show on Sunday, January 23rd!
Airen is not only the first person we call when we are interested in photography for our events, he is also one of those vendors that we receive nothing but rave reviews from our clients about. He is a genuinely nice, and extremely talented guy and we are proud to have worked with him for so many years. Thank you Airen!
Be sure to say hello to Airen at the Bridal Show and check out his booth! He's one of our favorites and you can be sure to feel safe with your wedding day memories in his hands:)
Well, we have just the people to fit that mood.
Our Preferred entertainers and Disc Jockey's will all be in attendance on January 23rd for our Bridal Show & Culinary Expo, ready to answer any of your questions, and yes, get you to dance:)

Today, I would like to highlight Harry Gambardella of HG Entertainment. Harry is not only one of the nicest guys I've ever met, but he's also the first we call when we organize staff appreciation parties, or our annual Pavilion Christmas Party. We not only recommend him to all of our clients, but we also are friends with Harry and trust him with our own personal dance parties:) (which are out of control, let me tell you)
Harry is fantastic. Please check out his site to get more information on what he can offer your for your special day. He will be at the Wadsworth Mansion on Sunday, January 23rd to answer any of your questions and give you all the information you need to feel comfortable and confident placing all of the music for your special day into his hands.

With January 23rd rapidly approaching, and the excitement building, we would like to share a little bit of what makes our bridal show here at The Connecticut Wedding Group so special to us.
Every day until Sunday the 23rd reaches us, we are going to highlight one or two vendors that will be joining us at the show itself! We want all of our brides to feel as comfortable and familiar with these names and faces as we do. So here we go!
~
In just a few weeks, we will showcase all of our preferred and most trusted photographers, entertainers, and hotels; our absolute favorite florist and bakery, and our personally utilized men's formals shop (we refer all of our staff to them for tuxes!).
But first, I would like to start off where every little girl's dream does...The Dress!
The Wedding Dress springs from our very own neighbor, Portland, CT. A beautiful shop that can fit and fashion every bride, The Wedding Dress is a trusted friend of the Connecticut Wedding Group, and has been for quite some time.
They are a small shop that specializes in a variety of styles and designers that cannot be found at just any bridal shop. Owners Fred and Shelley and staff are outstandingly friendly and attentive to each and every one of their customers. They will help you find the dress of your dreams and every other accessory to highlight each detail that makes you the stunning bride you are on your special day.
Check out The Wedding Dress online today and catch them at our Bridal Show & Culinary Showcase on January 23rd, 2011 at the Wadsworth Mansion!

We will always say we have the best staff...because, well, we do...!
This past Saturday night, sixty members of the Pavilion Catering family got together at The Lyman Orchards Golf Club and celebrated the holiday season with incredible food, non-stop dance music (thanks to Todd Powers of Jock-in-the-Box Entertainment!), and a photo booth (thanks to Geoff of Photobooth Planet!) that turned out some pretty hilarious shots of our favorite waiters, waitresses, management, and culinary staff!
In addition, we all got together and collected canned goods to donate to The Amazing Grace Food Pantry in our very own Middletown, CT, as well as two huge boxes full of toys that we donated to The Connecticut Children's Medical Center in Hartford. It was great to be able to give a little something back to the community and state that we love!
Okay here we go...take a look at all the fun!
Starting off the night we have...drum roll please....: Clockwise from top left: Event Manager Angie, Shelli (the great baker), Event Manager Marybeth, and Catering Manager Traci!
Meg & Thomas! Festive as always
This photo booth caught a couple of us off-guard...which is pretty perfect, haha...here is our beautiful Manager of the Lyman Golf Division, Dawn, and Tracy, the Lyman Orchards Golf Club Director of Sales
Oh boy okay, here we go...Clockwise from the top left: Event Chef Tim, Shelli, Katie, Event Manager Marybeth, Administrative Assistant Mary, Catering Manager Traci, and Event Manager Angie in the center!
It's a family affair! These three look a little similar...Clockwise from top left: Administrative Assistant Mary, Dan and Thomas!
Only the best! Catering Manager Traci and Vice President & General Manager Jonathan!
Melinda, Derek, and Melinda's lovely guest:)!
Event Managers Traci and Meghan!
This one has to take the cake for me: Clockwise from top left: Event Chef Tim, Catering Manager Angie, Shelli (baker extraordinaire), and Catering Manager Traci!
Elliot and Jack are clearly too cool for the photo booth (note excess pictures in hand)
Shelli and Event Chef Bill go way back, "BFFs" actually...they also weren't sure how to work the photo booth
Catering Manager Traci and Event Chef Bill hang out ALL the time...clearly too school for cool
Jeff and General Manager Jonathan!
Solo shots in photo booths are possibly my favorite...here is Eric celebrating the holidays as any good Pavilion Catering staff member would...
Happy Holidays Everyone! Hope you enjoyed some of our photos and hope you get some good ones of you and yours this season!
Thank you for such a fantastic 2010 everyone and hope to see you in 2011! Especially at the Bridal Show on January 23rd:)!

Congratulations Amanda and Todd!!
Just a little over a week ago this charming couple was married at the gorgeous Wadsworth Mansion at the Long Hill Estate. We were so proud to be part of the evening and help this pair celebrate! Although a little rain took us inside for the ceremony, when these two exchanged vows it didn't seem to matter where they were:) It was truly a beautiful event. The declaration of their love was alive and well, rain or shine!
Take a look at the awesome pictures taken by Parson's Photography:
One Saturday this past month we were shocked we didn't find a pumpkin sitting in the driveway when the clock struck midnight and our staff was getting ready to head home.
Magical is just one word for the day; the day Janis and Dan promised the rest of their lives to one another. Arriving for her ceremony pulled by a pair of white horses in a gorgeous white-wheeled carriage, Janis began by day by sweeping every person who stood on the lawn of the gorgeous Wadsworth Mansion on Long Hill...completely off their feet,
Fairy tale is what every little girl wants, and it seems the natural elegance of the Wadsworth Mansion paired with this special couple led to the actualization of such a dream. Janis and Dan celebrated with us and we would like to share their fairy tale story...with you. Take a look at all the love we found on this charming summer day...
Stephen Charles Photography documented this day exquisitely:
Dan and Janis before the ceremony begins...
One guest gets a sneak peak of the dining room while everyone is outside...
Janis overlooking the Long Hill Estate from the balcony where she and her bridesmaids prepared for the big day.
Look like things went well! Nothing like sneaking a kiss behind a horse and carriage:
The Mansion is nothing but exquisite, offering couples the most incredible background for their day (as can be seen above and below)
